COLORFUL MOUNTAINS
Northwest Argentina is a territory of about 300.000 square kms, inhabited by no more than 3 million people. In this región we have the most abrupt changes of climate and landscapes in the country, in this area there are more peaks over 5500 mts than in Chile, Perú or Bolivia.

There are six roads passes over 4000 mts, lunar landscapes, deciduous forests, impenetrable jungle, hundreds of indian ruins , adobe villages, Jesuit churches, rupestrian art, streams and rivers of clear waters, deserted roads, friendly people, winecellars, artisans, hunting, fishing and plenty of sun. Autumn, Winter and spring are the best times. In summer, the rains often damage the road and the humid heat of the Plains can be tiredsome. Three or four days is only just enough for a quick tour around calchaquíes valleys and Quebrada de Humahuaca.

Humahuaca gorge, in Jujuy province, descends from the planteaus and desplays its colored sides under a deep blue sky. In Purmamarca, disorderly collected hills enclosed the orizon.
Coming down from Salta, where the colonial past can be felt in the air, are the “valles calchaquíes”.

People from this region weave in their looms, thick ponchos and blankets with regional wool in Cafayate Valley cracks of rocks eroded by the winds from figures of unusual shapes. The train to the clouds, an unforgettable experience through the high peaks of the Andes, reaches an altitude of 12.500 feet.
